Community Guidelines

Last updated: 22 June 2026

1. Our Mission

Hackhouse is the digital home for Africa’s builder community. We connect techies, creatives, and founders through communities, events, resources, and merchandise. These guidelines exist to keep the platform safe, welcoming, and useful for everyone.

2. Who These Guidelines Apply To

These guidelines apply to everyone who uses the Hackhouse platform - community organizers, event hosts, attendees, blog contributors, followers, and shoppers. By using the platform you agree to follow them.

3. Be Respectful

  • Treat others with courtesy and professionalism. Disagreement is fine; hostility, personal attacks, and intimidation are not.
  • We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or nationality.
  • Respect privacy. Do not share someone else’s personal information without their explicit consent.

4. Community Standards

Communities hosted on Hackhouse must:

  • Have a clear purpose related to building, creating, learning, or connecting.
  • Provide accurate descriptions so followers know what to expect.
  • Respond to follower inquiries and event-related questions in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Not impersonate another organisation, person, or community.

5. Event Standards

  • Event listings must be accurate - correct dates, times, location, pricing, and descriptions.
  • Organizers must honour published ticket prices and refund policies. See our Refund Policy and Event & Ticket Policy.
  • Events that are cancelled or significantly changed must be communicated to ticket holders promptly.
  • Events that promote illegal activity, hate, violence, or fraud are prohibited.

6. Content Standards

Content published on the platform - blog posts, event descriptions, community profiles, and comments - must not:

  • Contain spam, misleading claims, or malicious links.
  • Infringe on intellectual property rights (copyright, trademarks).
  • Include sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise illegal material.
  • Promote pyramid schemes, scams, or fraudulent opportunities.

7. Merchandise

Sellers must accurately describe products, fulfil orders within stated timelines, and comply with applicable consumer protection laws. Counterfeit, stolen, or prohibited goods are not allowed.

8. Reporting & Moderation

  • If you see content or behaviour that violates these guidelines, report it to info@hackhouseafrica.com.
  • We review reports promptly. Actions may include content removal, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.
  • We will always explain the reason for moderation action taken.

9. Consequences

Violations of these guidelines may result in:

  • Removal of specific content or event listings.
  • Temporary or permanent suspension of a community, organizer account, or user account.
  • Forfeiture of platform privileges (hosting events, publishing content, selling merchandise).

Severe violations (fraud, illegal activity, credible threats) will be reported to the relevant authorities.

10. Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these guidelines as the platform evolves. Material changes will be communicated via the platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
